Tesco plays host to the Agapao Toy Appeal

Posted by: Phil

The Haslingden branch of Tesco today played host to 104.7 Rossendale Radio who were collecting donations for Agapao's Toy Appeal with the aim of providing surprise Christmas gifts to children across The Valley who might not be fortunate to enough to receive any presents this year.

Valley Breakfast's Big H, newsreader Colin, and presenter Dave Harvey were amongst those present to encourage shoppers to purchase an extra toy in their shopping.

The station was broadcasting live across the store, with presents EJ and Cook taking requests by phone from customers and members of staff whilst the donations came rolling in.

'The atmosphere across the store was electric!' Says station manager Phil Ord. 'We were overwhelmed with donations and very quickly had filled three trollies with assorted toys, books and gifts. On-air, we were offering listeners the chance to have any record of their choice played in return for donation, which was very well received.'

Dave Harvey presents Northen Soul & Motown Madness on Tuesday evenings. 'This has been one of the best events by far. One lady donated a full bag of toys- she must have spent an absolute fortune- all in return for hearing an Elton John record. It has been lovely speaking to our listeners in The Valley this afternoon and seeing such charity and compassion on what would have otherwise been a chilly afternoon.'

Newsreader Colin James was 'overwhelmed by the level of genorosity' from Tesco customer. 'Every child matters, especially around the festive season. It has been a very humbling experience to see people coming together to ensure that impoverished children in the area would have a merry Christmas this year.'

104.7 Rossendale Radio and Agapao would like to thank everyone for their kindness and for the trolleys of toys and gifts that we received today. Donations can still be made by popping into our office at 12 Bury Road, Haslingden, and leaving your present under the tree. Thank you, and Merry Christmas!
